Teacher’s Day in Thailand

January 16 was adopted as Teachers’ Day in Thailand by a resolution of the government on November 21, 1956. The first Teachers’ Day was held in 1957. Most Thai schools close for the day to give their teachers a break during the long second term. Many international schools do not, although they may hold celebrations to honor their teaching staff. There are very few public or official commemorations.

I observed that Thailand celebrates Teacher’s Day once in every semester. They celebrated last June 10 but we’re not on holiday. We still have class but two periods in the morning were used in presenting all the teachers flowers and gifts. I received red roses. Lots and lots of them!  On Teacher’s Day, I had a gift for myself. Guess what? Supposed to be I have to show you a photo but I’m still processing it so I will post it later this evening. May our students and the public remember the important role teachers play as  benefactors and persons who give light to many lives.
